The launch marks another step in Esri India’s sustained focus on localization, with continued investments in technology, talent and innovation aimed at developing solutions for requirements arising from the rapid adoption of geospatial technologies in India.
Professional GIS users in organizations rely on ArcGIS Pro for advanced analysis, 3D, network analysis and complex cartography. However, some users require desktop GIS software for simpler tasks such as mapping, visualization, querying and editing. GeoSARAL has been developed for these requirements.
The software was conceptualized in response to growing demand from Esri India’s large ArcGIS user base across enterprise and government sectors for a lightweight, Linux-based desktop GIS solution. GeoSARAL is also supported on Windows, while Android support is coming soon.

GeoSARAL is supported on both Linux and Windows, with support for Android on its way.”
GeoSARAL co-exists with users’ existing ArcGIS infrastructure and can leverage content from Indo ArcGIS Living Atlas. It enables users to view, manage and analyze GIS data and basemaps stored locally, including when an internet connection is unavailable.
The software is designed to integrate with existing ArcGIS ecosystems and provides enterprise-grade security. Its development comes as geospatial technology assumes increasing importance across governance, infrastructure, agriculture, defence, utilities, urban development, natural resource management, disaster management and other critical sectors.
Esri India said local development will play an important role in addressing India’s unique requirements while strengthening domestic technology capabilities. With GeoSARAL, the company is contributing to the country’s broader journey towards greater technological self-reliance.
